School Day
EVERYDAY ROUTINES
The School Day
Our school days starts formally at 0845 and finishes at 1615. This is shifted slightly later than many secondary schools, reflecting the latest research on adolescent sleep and learning patterns while preserving the fundamentals of family time. Students may come in from 0745 (a delicious breakfast is available every day) and stay until 1730 for convenience and to get any homework done in school.
Lessons last 45 minutes and each student has seven lessons in the day. The timetable is organised over two weeks to ensure an even distribution of time across subjects.
We run an extended lunch-break for 1 hour and 25 minutes. This enables all students to have lunch and take part in one, or sometimes even two clubs daily. Other clubs meet before school and after school where that is essential for the activity. We run structured lunch breaks for our youngest students in Fourth Form (Years 7-8) so they never feel at a loss for how to use their time.
Students may bring in healthy snacks and these are also available from the Big Refectory during break.

Prep timetables are carefully planned and the amount of independent work increases gradually as students grow through the school. Students in the Fourth Form have two tasks per day. Most tasks are traditional, not digital, completed in booklets and exercise books and recorded in physical paper planners.
Parents may opt out of any home use of school devices, if they wish, at this age. As students tackle more complex material a greater proportion of prep moves online, but the vast majority in-class learning remains traditional.
